Brief:
Conceive and design a poster for the OUT HERE documentary that features engaging storytelling, effective typographic styling, and compelling imagery that capture the heart and soul of the film.
Concept:
OUT HERE is a documentary that documents work being done out in Sacramento, CA to help out local chronically homeless populations, highlighting the story of Mark Sawyer and a few of the people he has supported or helped to house.

For my rendition of the movie poster, I immediately decided that I would create a custom illustrative piece, with elements taken from several different scenes throughout the film. Shown here, I digitally painted an underpass with several tents and their inhabitants, as well as a van repurposed into a shelter.
A figure walks into the scene, which is illuminated by a warm light, emulating that though encampments may be a place of struggle, people persist through the worst of it all. Finally, I created the slogan of 'Longing for Home' to solidify the message of the documentary. Not sadness, not anger, but hope and a call for action to help these unseen individuals.
