Concept:
‘From Scratch’ seeks to bring light to the ethnic backgrounds we may not commonly think of being attributed to popular foods within the United States. Food is an essential part of each and every culture but also a necessary human resource, so I found it a fitting to celebrate the ways in which so many different cultures and experiences can meld together to create, inspire, innovate, and invent so many diverse foods that we get the pleasure of enjoying.

For this project I wanted to utilize bright colors and created illustrations that were simple but eye-catching. Working to make something readable at the size of a stamp was a challenge, but I knew that having my goals set early on like this would make the process that much easier going forward.
To make the illustrations, I kept high contrast between my colors and the figures themselves with a blocky style to ensure that my illustrations would remain effective when scaled down. I took care to look at many references of these dishes throughout the process as well, making sure to keep distinctly shaped elements from every plate as focal points.
